News & Events

We organise and attend a number of events each year. These range from Fund-raising to Social events, but they are always enjoyable.

Thanks to Asda in Shoeburyness

The green tokens are given out by some Supermarkets, to customers, who have a choice of three charities.
Southend -on-Sea Lions requested to be one of these charities at Asda in Shoeburyness. The green tokens collected are then converted into cash for the said charity. So S-O-S Lions got £200.

Humam Hamster Wheel of Fortune

Southend Lion President Rod presenting a cheque £350 to Dean Ovel who is raising money for the Dementia Appeal Fund Dean is running in this 8Ft Hamster Wheel he designed and made. He is going to make like a hamster, and run in circles for 24 hours. He will be taking comfort breaks, but intends to eat drink and pound the wheel for 24 hours. We wish him well.

Southend Lions/SBWO presentation

The Southend Lions Club donated to the Southend Blind Welfare Organisation, a Trekker Breeze, a hand held piece of equipment,which is a personal audio SatNav system.

The Club is delighted to support, the excellent work carried out by the Southend Blind Welfare Organisation.

World Sight Day - 8th October 2015

VDG Lion Nigel took Southend-on-Sea Mayor Cllr Moring on a blind fold assisted walk today. Through Southend High Street Market into the Forum, Metro Bank, M&S and the Last Post Pub. This was to high light the sight issues through out the World.

Three new Lions for Southend-on-Sea Lions Club

Southend-on-Sea Lion President Mike was delighted to welcome three new Lions into the club last Thursday

Charity Shop

Southend-on-Sea Lions Club will run a Charity Shop in the centre of Southend from 7th March-3rd April raising funds for the local community.

Message in a Bottle

Southend-on-Sea Lions will have two slots at Southend University Hospital to show case "Message in a bottle". This will be in the reception area on the following dates:
Monday 2nd March 10-12noon
 Monday 6th April 2-4pm

Turning Tides Triple T Clubs

In the photo Southend  Lions President Mike presenting, with Southend United Football Club Manager Phil Brown, attainment certificates, and complementary tickets to a Southend United Football game. These young people are in a weekly youth club run by Turning Tides Triple T Clubs. 

Lions Help the Local Hospital

 Southend University Hospital Fund Raising Team requested support to purchase Ponchos for hospital patients, being taken outside to various departments.
Southend Lions Club were able to purchase 200 Ponchos and donate them to the Hospital.

Message In A Bottle

Southend-on-Sea Lions Club recently presentied 250 Message in a Bottle to Turning Tides.

We want to send a message to residents of Southend -how good these Message in a Bottle are:

How it works, if a resident has a medical disability, the sticker goes on the inside of the front door, the medical details are written up and placed in this bottle and put in the fridge.
So if the medical services have to do a call , and the patient is unwell, the medical team can rapidly assess the situation be looking at the message in a bottle in the fridge.
Southend Lions have donated these to Turning Tides, who in turn give these out in the community where needed

£500 Cheque presentation by Southend Lions Club President Karl Ramdin to the Lady McAdden Breast screening unit.

 The Southend Lions Club recently organized a Jazz Concert, with the Orpheus Singers and Digby Fairweather who is the the photo with his trumpet. Also the staff at the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Trust.

Spec Appeal / Hearing Aid Appeal

Southend-on-Sea Lions had a "Spec Appeal / Hearing Aid Appeal" linked to a Lions awareness Day at the Royals Shopping Mall in Southend-on-Sea (loads of specs, but no hearing aids)

It was a fun day, and we did have the offer of a person, willing to play a Hurdy-Gurdy music instrument at one of our events !!
