BRITISH ISLES and IRELAND
TRADING PIN CLUB

(MD 105)

Welcome to the web-site of the first pin traders club in Europe.

The purpose of the Club is to foster and encourage the trading of friendship pins between Lions, Lionesses and Leos throughout the nations of Lionism.

Membership is open to any Lion, Lioness or Leo in good standing within MD105, and an Associate category is available to those outside MD105.  Partners are also able to join as full members.

The Club has produced a membership pin, which is for members when joining.  Additional pins can only be purchased by members for trading, or giving as gifts.

Since the Club was formed at the beginning of 2000 it has produced a pin each year.  The theme for the first series was a dog which is well known for the country it represents.  The first for 2000 was with the Old English Sheepdog, which was followed in 2001 by the Welsh Corgi.  The third pin, representing Scotland, was the West Highland Terrier for 2002.  The fourth and final pin in the dog series for 2003 was the Irish Wolfhound.

The 2004 pin is the first of the second series which features army uniforms and depicts an officer from the Wellington's 1st Foot Guards.  The second in the series, 2005, is of a Sergeant (1890) from the Gordon Highlanders.  The third is of a Private (1895) from the South Wales Borderers for 2006.  The fourth and final in the series, representing the club pin for 2007, is of a Private (1815) from the Royal Irish Dragoon Guards.

The annual pin theme has changed from Army Uniforms to Famous People, and to begin the new series the 2008 pin features William Shakespeare.

For details of purchasing any of these please contact the club Secretary/ Treasurer, however the "Welsh Corgi, Old English Sheepdog, Wellington's 1st Foot Guards, and Gordon Highlanders" are no longer available.  To see all of our pins please see the link below, however the images are of high quality and may take some time to download.

During 2005 the club extended their pin collection by producing a pin to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of V.E. Day, and one to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Vice Admiral Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Both of these can be seen on this site, but for collectors the Trafalgar pin has sold out, despite a second large re-order. This means contact should be made with club members who may still be trading this and other pins.

The next pin produced in the anniversary series is to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the introduction of the Victoria Cross medal. The pin is dated 2006, and is available for purchase from the club's Secretary/Treasurer.

The anniversary series continued in 2007 with a pin recognising the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Scouting Movement. To represent 2008 the pin produced, acknowledges the 100th Anniversary of the introduction of the Ford Model T car.

The Club has attracted many Lions from overseas as Associate Members.  These come from the USA, Australia and Denmark, and the majority are also members of the Lions International Trading Pin Club.

To publicise the Club, the Board of Directors are willing to put on a display at Conventions.  Many current members have joined as a result of this happening, and if your District has not yet been visited, then please make contact for arrangements to be made.

The Club also collects unwanted Lion pins as part of its fund raising project. The beneficiary changes and currently is for "Campaign Sightfirst II". These should be sent to the Secretary/ Treasurer see below.
