The following Competitions are held at the annual Convention, the responsibility of these lies with the Convention Chairman
Entries: Each Club in District 105EA will be entitled to enter as many Teams as it wishes.
Teams: A Team will consist of a minimum of 2 players of which 1 at least must be members of the Lions Club.
Format: To be decided by the District Competitions Officer each year.
Handicap: Each player will be entitled to play under their full handicap allowance, maximum 28 men, 36 ladies.
Scoring: Depending on the format to be decided by the District Competitions Officer.
Ties: In the event of a tie the Team scoring the greater number of points on the back nine holes will be deemed the winners. If this does not produce a result the Team with the greater number of front nine holes will win.
Trophy: The “Peech Cup” (donated by PDG Don Peech) will be presented at District Convention to the winning Team.
Prizes: Each player of the winning Team, the best male score, the best ladies score and the player who has the lowest score.
Venues: In order to “travel” round the District the winning Team will be invited to “host” and help organise, in conjunction with the District Competitions Officer, the following year’s event at a course of their choice.
Entries: Each club in District 105EA will be entitled to enter as many teams as it wishes
Teams: A team will consist of 3 (minimum) or 4 (maximum) players of which at least two must be members of the Lions club they represent.
Format: There will be Zone heats consisting of clubs from that zone. The Zone Chairmen will be responsible for organising and supervising the heat, date, venue etc. Neighbouring zones may hold their heats together. The District Competitions Officer will arrange and supervise the District Final.
Progress: The top team from each Zone will go on to the Final.
Timetable: The Zone heats are to be held by the end of the first week in February. The Final is to be held before 1st March.
Trophy: The "Smart Trophy"(donated by PDG David Smart) will be presented at District Convention to the Club winning the District Final.
Heats: Each heat will consist of 10 rounds, one of which will contain questions on Lions Clubs International, with 10 questions in each round except Round 10 which will contain 20 questions. Five minutes are allowed for the completion of each round except Round 10, which will be completed during the quiz. Usually questions require a one or two word answer that must be written on the sheet provided.
Scoring: Each correct answer will be awarded one point. The decision of Zone Chairman / District Competitions Officer supervising will be Final.
Disputes: Refer to Scoring
Jokers: Before the commencement of a Round (1-9 only) a team may opt to play their "joker" by informing the supervisor and by writing a "J" at the top of their answer paper. Their score for that round will be doubled. Only one joker will be allowed per team per heat.
Ties: In the event of a tie the team with the best Round 10 score will be deemed the winner. If this also results in a tie the teams will be asked a "sudden death" question to determine the winner.
Fees: At the discretion of the organising officer a per capita/team entry fee, to cover venue hire, prizes, refreshments etc., may be levied.
Questions: The District Competitions Officer will provide the questions for all heats and the final.
Entries: All entries must be in book form not exceeding 24” x 36” and be limited to 52 sheets, i.e. 104 pages. They must be clearly identified on the cover.
Contents: The Scrapbook should cover the period of the preceding Presidential Year but when it is in continuous format, judging will only take place on material covering that period.
Participation: Every Lion/Lioness Club in the District is eligible to submit an entry.
Delivery: Each entry to be delivered in person by an authorised delegate to the Competition area prior to the commencement of District Convention
Judging: Entries will be judged during District Convention by a selected panel and be based on 65% designated to news media coverage, 25% to inter Lion publicity and 10% presentation. A District Trophy will be presented at District Convention to each winning Club. The winning Lions Club entry will be entered in the Multiple District Competition judged at Multiple District Convention. The Multiple District winner will be entered in the International Competition.
Organisation: The District Competitions Officer is responsible for organising the District Competition and for notifying the Multiple District Sergeant at Arms, the organiser of the Multiple District Competition, of the District winner.
Background: In 1979/80 the then District Sub-Editor of the B. & I. Lion Magazine, Lion Arthur Scott, presented a trophy to the District know as the “Scribe Award”. It is awarded annually for the best submission or series of submissions to the B. & I. Lion Magazine from a Club within the District.
Entries: Entry to the competition is made by a Club submitting contributions to the B. & I. Lion Magazine via the Editor during the year (from District Convention to District Convention).
Judging: Judging is done by the Editor who awards the “Scribe Award” to the Club which, in the Editor’s opinion, has made the “best” submission or series of submissions to the B. & I. Magazine via the Editor during the year (District Convention to District Convention). Publication of material in the B. & I. Magazine itself (i.e. acceptance by the Editor in Chief) is not a criterion of this competition
Organisation: The Editor, in conjunction with the District Competitions Officer, is responsible for organising and promoting the Award.
Definition: Editor – current holder of the post of District 105EA Sub-Editor of the B. & I. Lion Magazine.
Aims: To run a Travelling Lion/Lioness competition within District 105EA. Not to be run as a “pot hunting” competition. Aimed at encouraging friendship and good fellowship between Lions/Lionesses of District 105EA having the added advantage of helping and strengthening community service projects and fund-raising activities within Clubs, through the exchange of ideas taking place during inter-Club visits.
Objects: To encourage inter-Club visiting among Lions/Lioness Clubs throughout District 105EA
Period: The competition year is from the first day of February to the last day oft January following.
Points: Points will be awarded to each visiting Club on the basis of one point for each mile travelled by each Lion/Lioness between their own Club and the Club being visited (SINGLE JOURNEY ONLY). To offer the smaller Clubs equal opportunity, the points claimed will be divided by the total of the Club’s membership as at 31st December each year. The mileage referred to will be the shortest route, as shown in the AA book, between the regular meeting place of the visiting Lion/Lioness Club and the venue visited.
Reporting: An endorsed form must completed and sent to the District Competitions Officer within 1 month of a visit.
Trophies: The “Ron Barber Travel Trophy” (a model of Concorde made by the late Ron Barber mounted by Loughton Lions Club as a tribute to their sad loss in April 1980) is presented to the winning Lions Club at District Convention. The winning Lioness Club will receive a trophy at the District Convention. The Lion/Lioness Club, who scores the greatest number of points worked out as above, will win the trophies.
