Before we can help individuals or groups
who come to us for financial help we have to raise the
money from various activities throughout the year. It
is the responsibility of the fundraising committee to
organise and co-ordinate the events but it is hoped
that all Lions will help and give their support to the
committee. The one thing we always try to do is
to have fun whilst raising money or helping others.

Our ever-popular Tombola stall is often
seen at local events around South Woodham Ferrers. Recently
it travelled to Fambridge where visitors to the Fete
tried their luck to win one of our Mighty Mice as well
as to look for bargains at our new bric-a-brac stall.

Over the years one of our main incomes
has come from discos which we have held at our local
village hall. These have taken the form of 60’s
& 70’s evenings, Mowtown, Hits of Christmas Past
and Valentines Evenings.

Every year the members of the Lions
Club of South Woodham Ferrers support the Children in
Need Appeal. Club members have an early start
arriving at our local station at six o’clock in the
morning to serve the commuters tea and coffee whilst
asking them to dig deep into their pockets. They
have joined in collecting locally as well as at District
events held, in the past at the Dartford Tunnel and
more recently at Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Christmas sees us at the local Edwardian
evening with our tombola stall. This event has now become
a social event for everyone as well raising money for
our charity account.

ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF DAY
Annually, in May, keen golfers join with the Lions for our biggest
fund-raiser of the year. The event is usually held at Burnham
Golf Club and is normally attended by between 40 and 45 golfers
all hoping to score a hole in one. Including sponsorship from
local businessmen and traders the club hopes to raise in excess
of £1,400.00 at this event
Some other events we have organised
have been:-
- New Years Eve Charity Dinner and Dances
- Boxing Dinners
- Christmas food Collections
- Quiz nights
- Boot sales
- Street collections for both the Indian Earthquake and World
Trade Centre Appeals
All monies collected by the Lions Club are placed directly into
our charity account. We do not make any deduction for administration
expenses—the club members themselves meet these.
