Lions Clubs International - Halesworth Lions ClubOrdinary People doing Amazing Things |
Halesworth Lions Club is one of over 45,000 clubs in approx. 200 countries.
All Lions Clubs are non religious and non political. They all have one thing in common - their members are all committed to helping others locally, nationally and internationally. Halesworth Lions help their local community in various ways:-
Via our Welfare Committee, we are able to help those that fall through the welfare net. Many cases are sent to us from social services or concerned members of the public.
We have provided;-
Wheelchairs , carpets, school uniform, cots, garden fencing, specialist tricycle, and decorated a house.
Via our Financial Committee we have helped:-
The Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Rainbows buy new equipment.
Helped gap year students do voluntary work over seas.
Provided Christmas Trees for the Local Residential Home,
Nationally we have donated monies to disasters around Britain (e.g. Cumbria Floods). Internationally we have donated to Tsunamis Appeals and Hiati Earthquake, etc. We sponsor a child’s education in The Lions Phuket Sunshine Village. We are able to do all this by running fund raising events throughout the year.
Our three main events are:-
WINGS AND WHEELS :-
Vintage Vehicle and Airplane Rally held at Henham Park nr Southwold on the second Sunday in May
CARNIVAL and FETE:-
Procession through the town arriving at the Town Park for an afternoon of ring entertainment, stalls , games and Annual Duck Race, held on second Sunday in June
WINTER STREET FAYRE:-
Thoroughfare lined with stalls, an indoor craft market and Santa’s Grotto. Held on the second Sunday in December
We also have a Christmas Card delivery service for the town.
Father Christmas delivers presents around the town and neighbouring villages on Christmas morning.
We have boxes in both opticians and the Dr’s surgery in Halesworth to collect unwanted spectacles. These are then sent to Chichester Lions Club who sort and re-package them and then send them to third world countries.
We are a club of 36 members, male and female, of all ages and backgrounds. We all enjoy helping our community and making a difference around the world.
We can be found all year round, come rain, snow and sometimes sunshine, but above all having fun.
