An extraordinary feat is to be undertaken by Brian Rowson, a leading Stowmarket lion. At the youthful age of 75, Brian is to cycle around England, a distance of some 2,000 miles. Brian is an experienced cyclist having previously ridden all around Britain, eight western European countries and America. He expects this to be his last serious tour and will be raising money as he goes for Stowmarket Lions Club and British Heart Foundation/Mending Broken Hearts Campaign. These latter causes are dear to Brian since he has a well-managed heart condition having lost some 15-20% of his heart capacity some 12 years ago.
Brian starts his ride from Felixstowe on his birthday, 12th April 2012. The arduous route will take him as far north as Wooler in Northumberland, as far west as Wadebridge in Cornwall, then on to Folkestone in Kent before arriving back at Felixstowe in Suffolk on 2nd June - just in time to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee!
This is an ambitious undertaking by Brian, he will be given a hearty send off by Lions and friends who intend to make their way to some of his various calling points to give him support and fellowship. We also hope that Lions along the route will cheer him along as he arrives in their area. We'll be contacting club secretaries as he approaches their 'patch' so that they can add their encouragement if they are able.
I list below the calling points where Brian will be arriving at the end of each day. I hope that this will be of use to you and I very much hope that you'll be able to find some space in your pages for this event. You can contact me on 07850 260788.
